Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Patrick Süskind, John Woods I read this book 20 years ago (? - could it possibly have been this long? When was it published???) and I remember loving it. It's a creepy book about a baby born with no smell - none whatsoever - not even his diapers smell. He creeps out any woman hired to wetnurse him, and (as I recall) his father has a really hard time getting him through babyhood because no woman wants to nurse this freak no-smelling baby. He grows up to have a remarkable sense of smell, and becomes a perfumer. There's murder, mystery and LOTS of creepiness in this book. I just loved it. You know how you can tell where a book is going? You know how you have the whole thing figured out about half way through? Well, not with this one! My husband and son recently read it and they've inspired me to read it again. It's been so long, I'm sure that I'll be surprised, all over again. I can hardly wait!
